Mystery Snails (Pomacea Bridgesii or Pomacea Diffusa) are hardy survivors that can breathe air and absorb oxygen from their water. They have an air bladder that allows them to remain withdrawn into their shells with the door (operculum) closed for quite a while. That air bladder also allows them to be buoyant. The snails have a handy snorkel, too. The snails crawl, float, and hover as they choose.
Care is simple: clean fresh water, dissolved oxygen, and quality food.
Keep your aquarium water PH balanced as needed for your fish, and the snails will be happy. They can adjust. Although they can take a breath at the surface, plenty of dissolved oxygen keeps them active and healthy.
Mystery Snails are omnivorous scavengers. They will clean up algae and your left-over fish food. Blanched leafy greens are a great snack food for snails. No citrus or acid heavy vegetables. It is better to underfeed than overfeed! For day-day nutrition, we recommend 35%-45% protein content with a constant calcium source. We can provide pre-mixed feeds that our farm thrives on.
Enjoy your new addition!
