Usually they are peaceful when kept with other cichlids. The tank should have a sandy bottom. Provide hiding places with rocks, driftwood and roots. Open swimming areas are necessary. Because the fish digs during mating times plants cannot be used as decoration.
Some synonyms: Heros longimanus, Astronotus longimanus, Cichlasoma longimanus, Amphilophus longimanus.
Origin
Central America; Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.
